Jimmy Lovrien, NSR Assistant Editor. Majors: History and English. Minors: Political Science and Communication, The College of Saint Scholastica, Class of 2017. Involved in MGJ/NSR since fall 2013.

I am entering my junior year as a history and English student at the College of Saint Scholastica. Through these courses, I hope to prepare myself for a career in journalism. I was born and raised in Alexandria, Minnesota, but relocated to Duluth, Minnesota for my undergraduate studies.

I have volunteered for the North Star Reports (NSR) for almost two school years and continue to for several reasons. Of course, writing and editing fits well with my future plans, but NSR allows me to help others. Not only does NSR allow personal growth, but also enables readers from across the globe to access the material I may edit or write so they can also grow as students, too.

The North Star Reports publishes edited essays from our students, particularly from those who are currently stationed, or will soon be stationed abroad. Students have reported from Mongolia, Southern China, Shanghai, northeastern China, The Netherlands, Tanzania, Ireland, England, Finland, Russia, and Haiti. We also have students developing reviews of books, documentaries, and films, and analysis of current events from around the world. We will post their dispatches, and report on their interactions with the North Star Reports students and teachers. We thank The Department of History and Politics and the School of Arts and Letters of The College of St. Scholastica for their generous financial support for The North Star Reports and The Middle Ground Journal.
